“Through the darkness of future past
the magician longs to see
one chants out between two worlds
‘Fire walk with me.”-The one armed man
Recently I was able to do a photo-shoot that I had wanted to do for quite a long time. One that was inspired by my love the strange little show, Twin Peaks.
I have been planning to do a series inspired by several characters. This was the first I had the opportunity to do. The character for this shoot was based on the ladies at the RR Diner from the show. I wanted to make it a pin-up style shoot because I thought it would best with the old style waitress uniform.
My friend and fellow photographer Robin Nicolai, put me in touch with a model and someone to provide hair and makeup service. Robin had recently done a photo-shoot (for which I assisted) at his cousin Bonnie Davis’ hair salon, Vivid Salon. Jenn Miller was one of the hair models and had agreed to be a part of my shoot. Bonnie then also agreed to do hair and makeup for my shoot, and this time Robin would assist me.
Everything had come together. Almost. Model, Hair/Makeup, assistant, replica of the diner menu, and cherry pie! Now I needed the perfect RR Diner waitress uniform. After about a week of searching, I had found the most perfect replica of the uniform from the show that exists. It was made by a very talented woman in Israel named Anat Berman. I found her on Etsy. Her company is Biantika.
It has taken me quite a while to go through the many many wonderful shots I got from the session and then to pick and edit them. But I feel I ended up with some really great photos.
Then I heard about an art show in Seattle, Washington that was accepting submissions for their 3rd annual event. The name of the art show is Between Two Worlds, Fire Walk With Me and it is put on by an organization called Push-Pull. (They are currently having a kickstarter for a larger space , you should check them out and help out if you can) So I submitted my work, not expecting much. A few days later I was contacted by the woman who runs it, and she told me shed love to have my work in the show!
So I got some really nice mounted prints done up to send up there to the show. Fingers crossed that they sell. I have not had my art in a show for about 11 years or so.
At the art show I will have several large mounted pieces available for purchase as well some smaller high quality prints available for purchase. I am very excited to have my work shown so far away and to a crowd of people who know exactly what this shoot was all about. Hopefully they will love the images I created as much as I do.
In the near future I plan to do at least two more character inspired shoots for the series. I have many other shoot ideas that are wholly original. I also have some very exciting shoots coming up later this month. Good things to come! You can see all of my Twin Peaks themed pin-up photos HERE.
Prints of these are available at the art show in Seattle on the 14th of August or HERE.
